Hello there! My name is Jean-Philippe Marchand, I’ve just turned 44 and I love helping entrepreneurs and bloggers look awesome online.
I’ve been creating websites for individuals and small business owners for more than 10 years now. I’ve specialized in WordPress development as I think it is the most powerful content management system available on the market (nowadays 43% of all websites on the Internet are powered by WordPress). I also like WordPress because it’s really easy for my clients to update or add content to their web pages.
Prior to becoming a front-end developer, I studied photography at Louis Lumière National Higher School in Paris, France and worked as a freelance technical editor for a photography magazine. I was then hired as a sales engineer for a company selling high-end digital cameras to professional photographers.
Becoming a Digital Nomad
In 2010, I decided to leave Paris and move to Tokyo with my family. My project there was to learn how to properly code websites which was already a passion of mine. Within a few months, I was able to code in different languages such as HTML, CSS, PHP, as well as JavaScript and to develop my first blog about Japan. Then with the help of some friends, I founded Photoreview, a content curation platform about photography.
Since 2013, I’ve been living in the city of Boston, Massachusetts from where I offer services like WordPress support, full theme setup and custom web design for clients all around the world. I enjoy very much working on my laptop from home or cafes while interacting with people across different time zones.
Less is More
In life, I like to keep things simple and organized. And when it comes to designing websites, I tend to do the same: I am a huge fan of minimalist web design (I bet you can tell by looking at my website). I don’t think you need all the bells and whistles to make a website attractive. I believe simplicity is the key to get a site that loads fast and is easy to navigate.
I like to solve problems and help clients to adapt their current offering into web pages optimized for search engines. I also like to design great call to actions to convert your visitors into new clients.
The websites I build can of course adapt to any size of screen including smartphones and tablets (responsive web design). Another area of expertise I can help you with is defining a social media strategy that will increase your online popularity by building a strong community of followers.
Never Stop Learning
Web developer is not one of those careers where you learn something once and you just keep doing the same thing every day. That’s what I love about being in tech and this job in particular. I get to be creative while challenging myself to become better and better at coding.
I’m passionate about my work and I’m always willing to learn more and develop new skills. That’s why LinkedIn Learning has become one of my favorite platforms to take courses about web development and stay up-to-date with the industry trends. I believe there is always room to improve in every area.
When I’m not in front of my computer, you can usually find me working out in the fitness room or running along the Charles River, taking a lot of photos with my Fujifilm advanced compact camera or exploring the outdoors with my wife and daughter.
